Kate Parham is a Washington D.C.-based freelance food and travel writer. She also reports on wine & spirits, health, and other lifestyle topics for over 60 publications (see right for full client list). Born and raised in Atlanta, Kate settled in the District after living in Los Angeles, Italy and Dallas.
She’s the first to admit her job is the best in the world–it’s taken her across the globe and back, after all. Kate has been wine tasting in Bordeaux, salmon fishing in Alaska, wildlife searching (and wine tasting) in South Australia, snorkeling in Hawaii and Turks & Caicos, film-festing in Toronto, working on a cattle ranch (and wine tasting…are you sensing a pattern yet?) in Napa Valley, skiing in Whistler, cave diving in Riviera Maya, and exploring, mostly by way of food, cities like Istanbul, Vancouver, Portland, Seattle, New Orleans, Denver, Dallas/Fort Worth, Baltimore and many towns in the Mid-Atlantic, all in the name of journalism. When she’s not on the road, Kate also develops recipes for publication, and she’s one of five leading travel journalists behind the online luxury travel magazine Luxury Travel Mavens.
Before starting her freelance career, Kate worked as an online copywriter for Neiman Marcus. She graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!), where she received a B.A. in Magazine Journalism and a B.S. in Consumer Journalism, with a concentration in fashion.
Where’s Kate headed next? On the docket for 2013: Napa/Sonoma + San Francisco, Istanbul, Charleston, Southeast Asia, Chicago, Tuscany and Spain’s Basque region, Dallas/Fort Worth, Argentina, Philly, and more. If you’re an editor looking for a writer with their ear to the ground in any of these cities, please email Kate at katemparham[at]gmail.com.
